The other night we went to our friends home for hot cocoa and Trader Joe's cookies. I walked in and saw a few dozen of these darling Christmas tree cones displayed all over her living room. I told her how much I loved them and she said she made them, all of them! Every year she makes a few using old fabrics and other materials.
I told her I wanted to put these on my blog and she said that there are tutorials all over pinterest and they are so easy to make. Well, maybe she didn't create this idea but I had never seen them before and wanted to post how simple and pretty they are.
First you make a cone from a thick piece of paper or light cardboard, my friend said she uses old cereal or cracker boxes.
Then you decorate... with anything. My friend used beads, fabric, paper, beans, twine, yard, string, ornaments, feathers, glitter, tissue paper etc.
And then display! My daughter loved the idea so much she has already made 2 using wrapping paper.

I came across the most darling printables for the Light the World project! I personally love the ornaments, but she also created a 25 day journal, posters and more for the family to use this Holiday season. And yes, they are free!
You can download and print these projects through this link:
Another darling project that is simple and easy, especially with little ones is from the blogger A Year of FHE (family home evening).
She has a darling 25 day calendar. To print this for your family click the link below:

One of the many projects my husband and I have worked on (with much help from my in-laws, Kent and Kathy Bartholomew) since we moved into our first home almost 7 years ago is this overhead storage.
One of the selling points for my husband when purchasing our home was this extra large 4 car garage. I don't know how tall the ceiling is but, it is extremely tall and always seemed like wasted space. I visited a friend's home and saw they had overhead storage in their garage made with 2x4s and plywood or was it particle board? They paid someone to install theirs, but with a "handy-man" like my father-in-law I knew we could DIY it! So we bought the materials and they took a weekend off from their busy lives to drive down from Idaho to put this up! (please imagine an emoji face with heart eyes placed here).
Below, I've tried to show how we did this. My measurements are not exact, but anyone can change the measurements to fit their needs.
Et voila! $1,200 worth of overhead storage for $350! And since my father-in-law built this, it is strong and built to last.... now I just need to figure out some kind of a pully system to get my holiday bins off and on the shelf!
