For todays Light the World project we are making these yummy cookies. They are our family's favorite cookie during the Holiday season. They are called Peanut Butter Blossom cookies with a Hershey Kiss in the middle. I found these cute cookie designs via cookdairy.com that a very clever person added to make them even more festive! Really, how cute are those Hershey Kisses Christmas trees!?
Here is the recipe we like to use:
Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, slightly softened
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
Hershey’s Kisses
- ~Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- ~Sift flour, soda and salt with a wire whisk and set aside.
- ~Beat butter and peanut butter
- ~Add sugar and beat until fluffy.
- ~Add egg and vanilla.
- ~Add flour mixture and combine.
- ~Roll dough into 1 to 1-1/2 inch balls and then roll the balls in sugar to coat.
For Peanut Butter Kisses:
- Place rolled balls on parchment paper covered baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and press an unwrapped Hershey’s Kisses candy into the center of each cookie.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

I interpret this to mean that I need to love and serve everyone. E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E. No matter what ....race, religion, gender, and especially those who are difficult to love. I have very few people like this in my life and I need to constantly practice compassion and empathy towards them, no matter how much I have been hurt. Humph... easier said than done. ;)
The other night we went to our friends home for hot cocoa and Trader Joe's cookies. I walked in and saw a few dozen of these darling Christmas tree cones displayed all over her living room. I told her how much I loved them and she said she made them, all of them! Every year she makes a few using old fabrics and other materials.
I told her I wanted to put these on my blog and she said that there are tutorials all over pinterest and they are so easy to make. Well, maybe she didn't create this idea but I had never seen them before and wanted to post how simple and pretty they are.
First you make a cone from a thick piece of paper or light cardboard, my friend said she uses old cereal or cracker boxes.
Then you decorate... with anything. My friend used beads, fabric, paper, beans, twine, yard, string, ornaments, feathers, glitter, tissue paper etc.
And then display! My daughter loved the idea so much she has already made 2 using wrapping paper.

I came across the most darling printables for the Light the World project! I personally love the ornaments, but she also created a 25 day journal, posters and more for the family to use this Holiday season. And yes, they are free!

Another darling project that is simple and easy, especially with little ones is from the blogger A Year of FHE (family home evening).
She has a darling 25 day calendar. To print this for your family click the link below:
