searching for fabric

9:55 PM

I am making Roman Shades for my sunroom. I initially went with a yellow floral pattern, because the fabric was free. ;) Gotta love free, my mom bought a bunch of fabric that she ended up passing on to me, so I thought I would put it in our yellow sunroom.

But now I am leaning more towards green. I want a pretty green pattern, yet don't want the pattern everyone else has posted on their blogs these days. Not that I don't like it, I just don't want to feel like a copy cat.

I found a great site called mod green pod that has some really cool fabrics, one of which is this green/basil colored 'Atticus' pattern.

a bone to pick with 1976

7:59 PM

So here is my beef with 1976. Why wasn't I just born 5 or 6 years later? I could have kept in touch with so many friends. Friends who I tried so diligently to write, literally write, pen to paper once a week and visa versa. If only...if ONLY we had facebook, twitter, blog world etc... it would have been so much easier and actually possible to hang on to these friendships!

Chronicles of Brooke's travels (me):

keep in mind at each stage I made a group of friends who we tried to keep in contact with one another.

3-16 years old: Walnut Creek, CA (the friends I had here for 13 years were more like family)

16-18 : St. Cloud, France

18-19: Utah State University (my family remained in France)

19-20: BYU Jerusalem

20-21: BYU Provo (my family moved to Park City, Utah)

21-22: San Pablo, Philippines Mission (I received 31 wedding invites while here, I returned home to no single friends left)

22-24: University of Utah (discovered the new craze called 'email')

24: Internship, Washington DC (6 months)

25: back to U of U (Parents moved to Millcreek)

26: married, Avenues SLC

27: changed wards

28: changed wards (twice, yet never moved...boundry change)

30: changed wards (Max turned 3 had to go to Family ward, parents moved to Millville)

(32: discovered the joys of Blogger and facebook)

33: Kaysville, Utah (we bought our first house and I am trying to figure out the joys of twitter, but I only have 2 friends who do it, so i feel kinda dumb, but I will persevere)

At around the age of 24 I was done with making new friends every year. I was so tired of making friends and then someone going somewhere and try as we may, never really able to keep in contact. (no facebook, twitter, blog, etc...I didn't use email before the age of 23, good grief!)

I am bound and determined to stay put here for a VERY long time. So to all you girls out here in K-town who I have become friends with, you are NOT allowed to leave me! ;)

girls night

9:02 PM

For girls night last week some awesome k-town gals and I went to this movie "Leap Year". The scenery was beautiful, set in Ireland during St. Patrick's day. Anyhow, if you are in the mood for a romantic comedy (kind of comedy) with not a whole lot of cheesiness, but very romantic in a sarcastic sorta way than this is your movie.

It's probably not one for the men folk, but can I just say this Irish actor is dreamy beyond dreamy in a strange way. (not as dreamy as Steve, of course)

mean people

8:47 AM

Here is my buddy Max. He's my first baby and he has enriched my life so much. I know his strengths, I know his weaknesses. We have been together through thick and thin. I see daily how kind, caring and sensitive he is...and of course I see how stubborn and bossy and moody he can be as well.

Well, the other day he came home from school telling me that a group of kids (who will remain nameless) and who I'd like to give a swift kick to the arss had been calling him fat. Yes, fat. :(

I think my heart broke less when he got punched. I asked him how he felt about it and he said it made him want to cry but he didn't. So can anyone blame me for wanting to go to school and giving those boys a piece of my mind? I am disgusted by these children's parents, as they have managed to raise 5-year-old bullies. Really, what normal, well rounded child from a decent home environment is a bully in kindergarten?

Anyhow, I have thought about it more than I want to. It just confirms that I wish I could protect my children from mean people...there's normal "bad day" behavior and then there is just mean.

Mean people should be separate from the rest of society. :) Stick'em all in a room together and let the rest of us be.

Okay, I officially have no right to complain anymore

11:37 PM

After hitting a HUGE wall the last two weeks I am ready to jump back into the game (I think it is more of a circus when you add kids) of life.

I opened up the March issue of Better Homes & Gardens and the first page I opened to as I was running to wipe Mimi's oh-so-cute bum was a picture of Design Mom, Gabrielle Blair. I had heard of her, read of her and Liz, who I knew for a short time in the Aves. is her sis-in-law.

Anyhow what stopped me in my tracks is when I read she is a mother of 5 expecting her 6th child!!! Okay, I guess I have no right what-so-ever to complain about juggling 3 kids. Seriously, can we say Super-hero mom here? I want her secret.

Desperately.

Xanadu, Duran Duran, scrunchies and...

9:32 PM

...the ribbon barrette! So do these barrettes make anyone else growing up in the 80's nostalgic? I was looking for Summer clothes for Mimi on the Internet and found these at crazy8.

I distinctly remember my babysitter, Kristin King and her friends (who I thought were so cool and pretty, I think they were 15 at the time) having their hair up in these barrettes with the ribbon hanging down. I think I am going to make some for Mimi...and introduce her to the beauty and wonder of the 80's. ;)

Here is a free tutorial I found on the web. For more instruction go here or if you don't want to bother making them and just buy them go here.

before/after

3 reasons why i love design sponge...

10:24 AM

1. I love the color of the 'after' dresser from second coat design, it has given me a little inspiration for my antique store dresser.

2. These homemade cake stands are pure genius. It befuddles me that someone can be so darn creative and at the same time it makes so much sense you can't help but think, "why did I never think of this?".
